You are detailed-orientated, organized, and know the “ins and outs” of denials. As a Denial Management Specialist, you will investigate denials for medical services provided. You will be an integral part of our Medical Billing team, directly impacting the entire organization, and ensuring claims are disputed, appealed, and refiled accurately.

Responsibilities

Role Overview
  • Researching and resolving denied, unpaid, and underpaid insurance claims
  • File appeals as needed to resolve denials, collaborate with payers and monitor appeals in the process
  • Properly track and document all denial and appeal activity
  • Check insurance payments for accuracy
  • Conduct outbound calls to insurance to gather information for claims
  • Access payer online portals to resolve denials
  • Send medical records to insurance companies
  • Maintain all logs, account notes, and system records as assigned
  • Help identify issues from denials and appeals that might be avoided on future claims
  • Maintain working knowledge of all payer guidelines and requirements as they relate to denials and appeals

Skills & Qualifications

Profile of an Ideal Candidate
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of two years of related experience in denials is required (successful candidates have come from similar backgrounds such as billing assistants, claims processors, and similar titles)
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines, specifically commercials and Medicaid across states is preferred 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and respond to changing
  • deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate a 10-key, and computers (laptops) 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Possesses an initiative-taking, service-oriented attitude
  • Must be comfortable with daily commute to Office
