Patient Account Specialist

You are empathetic, customer-serviced-focused, and have a passion for helping others. As a Patient Account Specialist, you are responsible for supporting patient families by answering questions, resolving account issues, and ensuring the collection of payments. You will be an integral part of our Medical Billing team, directly impacting the entire organization, and the families we serve.

Role Overview

  • Answer approximately 50 or more incoming calls and emails from families, insurance companies, and clinics per day
  • Make outgoing calls or send emails to follow up on patient account balances and payment plans
  • Identify and help resolve insurance issues that are preventing proper payment
  • Generate patient statements and take incoming patient payments
  • Support patients in the resolution of any financial liability they may owe
  • Determine financial need and offer financial assistance according to department policy

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess at least 1-2 years of healthcare collections or billing related experience
  • Possess a strong understanding of health insurance medical policy to explain benefits, payments, and patient liability amounts
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and respond to an everchanging environment
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to solve complex billing issues
  • Must be comfortable with daily commute to Home Office on Northwest side of Indianapolis
